One Vision Code Challenge
Hello all!
Whew, it’s been a busy few weeks. I’ve been working on my Middle Grade fiction book, Vision Code: The Final Evolution, plus a few other projects.
When I decided to set this book in the future, I didn’t fully realize what a challenge it would be. I mean, I’ve always loved science fiction, but I really have to stretch my imagination writing this. I grew up on ‘Lost In Space’ and ‘Star Trek.’
Back then there was no streaming of shows. I had to wait a week between episodes to watch. I remember rushing through Saturday morning chores so that I could have the afternoon to watch then next Star Trek. Yes, I admit, I was a Trekkie. Maybe not as die hard as some fans, but I do love Kirk and Picard!
Anyway, I’m finding that I really have to submerge myself mentally in the fictitious culture of the future when I’m writing. I have to consider not only structural changes, but also technological, emotional, and speech differences. How would they look, talk, communicate, and live on a day to day basis. What would travel, grocery shopping, and going to school look like? Every part of living today is subject to change in the future. Would that change be better or worse?
The world I’m creating in my book is a lot for me to consider. Thankfully, I have a couple of fellow writers who are part of my online critique. They are writing their own Middle Grade books and help to keep me motivated and on track. I seem to work better on a deadline!
Well, I need to go and write the next chapter. Thanks for going on this journey with me.
And as Mr. Spock always said, “Live long and prosper!” 🖖
